Job Description

Climate change is the defining challenge of our time, shaping the health of populations for generations to come. The National University of Singapore is tackling this crisis through its Centre for Sustainable Medicine (CoSM), working to accelerate the transition to low-carbon, climate-resilient health systems.

We invite applications for a highly motivated and specialized Research Fellow with skillsets in quantitative analyses of environmental impact, particularly life cycle assessment and impact assessments focusing on the carbon footprint. As part of the Centre’s Carbon Analytics Team, the individual will be conducting research at a range of scales within the healthcare system using appropriate methodologies; from process-based life cycle assessments of individual healthcare products, to carbon footprint analyses using environmentally extended input output models of national healthcare systems. The team will work with the Implementation Team to develop evidence-based standards for sector-specific net zero commitments in healthcare.

The individual will report to the principal investigator (PI), to design and conduct research assessing environmental impacts associated with healthcare-related functional units (such as national healthcare systems, clinical patient pathways, clinical treatments including procedures, products, and pharmaceuticals). The individual will contribute to the development and validation of novel/ innovative methodologies for undertaking environmental impact assessments within healthcare. They will contribute to growing the space of low-carbon healthcare through the centre’s teaching efforts and doctoral training programme.

The successful candidate will have experience undertaking environmental impact assessments including life cycle assessment and carbon footprinting (using top-down, bottom-up and hybrid approaches), alongside using carbon and sustainability analytics to inform policy tools (such as Health Technology Assessments, Energy Efficiency Analysis, and Transition Pathways Analysis).

Qualifications

The applicant should:

  1. Hold a PhD degree in a related discipline (e.g. Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Public Health);
  2. Have a track record of academic publication;
  3. Have a keen interest in sustainability and/or health services;
  4. Be a strong team player in a highly dynamic research team;
  5. Be willing to undertake further training in relevant methodologies;
  6. Be resourceful, adaptable and meticulous;
  7. Have excellent command of spoken and written English;
  8. Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  9. Have knowledge of relevant statistical software, e.g. SPSS, R, Stata, SimaPro.

Application

Remuneration will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Formal application: Please submit your application, indicating current/expected salary, supported by a detailed CV (including personal particulars, academic and employment history, complete list of publications/oral presentations) and full contacts of three (3) referees to this job portal.
