Summary
Uses significant technical expertise to assist in design, develop, modify and evaluate materials, optical components, optical equipment, software/hardware and/or systems. Assist in new product developments, and drive DFM (cost-down & manufacturability) improvements and sustain engineering activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Works with a multidisciplinary team of hardware, software, firmware, mechanical, and quality engineers to drive Optical specific product development
- Support design of prototypes and manufacturing of optical and atomic emission and atomic absorption instrumentation
- Design and develop optical systems for spectroscopic instruments, including monochromatic and interferometer-based systems.
- Recognizes cost and schedule implications on projects. Able to meet critical program schedules and technical objectives
- Drives technical solutions based on standard or accepted technical practices
- Work with R&D as a team to implement product specifications focusing on Optics. Identifies issues and areas for improvement with existing technical processes, either independently or through cross-functional teams. Develop ways to improve technical methodology, processes and products
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Masters and/or PhD degrees or other advance training preferred
- Minimum 5 years of relevant working experience of which at least 3 years working with theory and instrumental design of various spectrometer analysers
- At least 2 years of experience must have been in a manufacturing/production environment
- Some industry experience in analytical instruments or process instruments
- Experience with successful product development, including product integration of software, firmware and hardware.
- Knowledge of AA and ICP-OES design an advantage
- Experience in Six Sigma, DOE, lean manufacturing techniques, capability studies, process mapping, FMEA, and root cause analysis is a plus
- Demonstrate knowledge of optical design and electrical systems/sub-systems of Analytical Instruments
- Good understanding of optical modeling and design tools such as ZEMAX
- Solid grasp of the engineering change process and function of Product Data Management systems (PDM)
- Knowledge in analytical instruments
- Knowledge in ISO 13485 and ISO 9001
- Ability to analyze and develop, communicate and improve business processes and systems
- Ability to lead change and establish operational metrics and key indicators for process control, communication and performance improvement
- Strong drive for results, balanced with effective decision making and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge, skills and ability to implement lean manufacturing principles and other process improvement initiatives
