Rig mechanics are responsible for a range of tasks to ensure the safety and efficiency of the rig operations. They need to inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot mechanical problems on the rig equipment and systems, as well as perform preventive and corrective maintenance according to manufacturer's specifications and company policies. Mechanics must also use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment to repair or replace faulty parts. After repairs or adjustments, they must test and calibrate the rig equipment and systems. Additionally, they must document and report maintenance activities, issues, and solutions to the rig manager and supervisor. Rig mechanics must also order and manage the inventory of spare parts and consumables, supervise and train other mechanics as needed, and comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
