Job Description:
1. Embark on and lead Corporate Development activities:
(a) To originate investment opportunities where Mitsui can leverage its existing business assets, to evaluate their strategic and financial returns for Mitsui group by executing the opportunity, and to prepare an investment thesis to pitch to the management of Mitsui Asia Pacific.
2. Value-creation of existing portfolio companies as well as to create new businesses, leveraging existing assets of other Business Units:
(a) To monitor, manage and support the department's investment portfolios (e.g. Private Equity funds)
(b) To create business collaboration between the department's investment Portfolio and other Business units within Mitsui group.
3. Develop and expand asset management business (real estate, infrastructure, data center) in Asian region, liaising with HQ team in Japan.
4. Support General Manager in internal fiscal reporting and annual business planning & budgeting.
Job Requirement:
1. Investment background, with minimum 10 years of working experience in investment-related firm/team
2. Working experience in/with a conglomerate, so that the candidate is familiar with its decision-making process and its inclination to seek not solely financial returns but also strategic returns (i.e. strategic synergies with its businsses) in its investments.
3. Fund-raising experience in Japan or from Japanese investors as the job requires such an activity. Having General-Partner and Limited Partner network in Asia.
4. Ability to be fluent in Japanese as the job involves liaising with HQ teams in Japan as well as reaching out to Japanese partners for co-projects.
5. Able to travel in the SEA region once a month on average
Skills and Competencies:
1. Professional and broad knowledge of Merger & Acquisition (valuation, negotiation, funding, investment structuring)
2. Deep understanding of how asset-management works (i.e. working experience in asset-manager, Private Equity / Venture Cap fund)
3. Strong interpersonal skill of communication and negotiation with vendors and other Mitsui branch offices.
4. Deep understanding of management of company (accounting, tax, human resource, financing)
5. Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
6. Experience Fund-raising in Japan or from Japanese investors
7. Japanese fluency: JLPT-N1
8. Eagerness to learn the conglomerate’s business assets and to leverage them in making investments and value-creation post-investment.
