Job Description

We are looking for a highly talented and motivated candidate to design and realise Long-life Solid-State Batteries by intelligent composites with active interfaces. This collaborative project will run from 1 July 2024 for 5 years. The focus will be on designing composites of the inorganic solid electrolytes with polymers that retain the high conductivity of the materials, allow for low-cost thin film preparation and yield stable interfaces with electrode materials to achieve solid-state batteries with enhanced rate performance and capacity retention.

Key tasks for the Research Engineer in this project will be to cooperate with team members for an effective scalable synthesis, advanced structural and electrochemical characterisation, optimisation of cathode composites and their interfaces with the electrolyte, and integration of functionally intelligent sensors and actuators for achieving high performance solid state batteries with long cycle life.

The position will be open from 1 July 2024 initially for three years with optional extension.

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Materials Science or a related discipline is required.
• The position is also suitable for conducting a Part Time PhD project in the MSE department in parallel.
• Some prior knowledge of electrochemical battery characterisation is expected preferably involving solid state or polymer batteries. This can be achieved by a Final Year or Master project on a related topic.
• Basic knowledge in impedance spectroscopy, XRD and solid state NMR is desired
• Ability to work independently and cooperate effectively with the interdisciplinary team in this CRP project is necessary.
• Good writing and presentation skills are needed
