Job Description

The NUS Centre for International Law (CIL) is seeking applications from motivated and committed candidates for a 2-year position as Senior Research Fellow for its Energy Law and Policy Programme (ELP).


The ideal candidate would be interested in working on globally-oriented energy governance issues with a regional focus, particularly topical issues of a cross-cutting nature. CIL encourages its research staff to develop independent and joint research within its areas of focus. Candidates with interdisciplinary research experience/perspectives are encouraged to apply.


In addition to conducting research, the Senior Research Fellow is expected to assist in planning and organising international and regional conferences, workshops and training courses for government officials; and to be involved in drafting background papers and/or reports for such events.


In the case of cross-cutting issues, the Senior Research Fellow is expected to collaborate with other research teams within CIL to ensure efficient and effective research outcomes. He/ She is also expected to contribute to the development and maintenance of an internal knowledge base as well as efforts to keep the CIL website and other research-related social media platforms up to date.


The successful candidate can look forward to working at the forefront of governance issues as part of the global energy transition and contributing to shaping the future of energy governance at both the global and regional levels. CIL also provides opportunities for its research staff to attend regional and international conferences, workshops and symposiums. There would also be opportunities to work with leading international and regional experts in this field and gain valuable exposure to a range of energy governance issues and perspectives. The successful candidates can look forward to joining a small collegial team that values team work and excellence.

Qualifications

  • A PhD in international law with a strong focus on sustainable or clean energy.
  • Candidates should have a strong understanding of legal research methodologies and possess excellent research, writing and analytical skills and have at least 5 years of post-doctoral work experience in the energy field, preferably in an academic setting. Those with prior experience leading research projects will be favourably considered.
  • Candidates with a particular interest in Southeast Asia and its regional institutions are strongly encouraged to apply.

The Centre for International Law (CIL) was established in 2009 as a university‐level research institute at National University of Singapore (NUS). It is located on the Bukit Timah Campus of NUS, together with the Faculty of Law. As a university-level research institute, CIL is expected to engage in multi-disciplinary research as well as legal research. The Energy Law & Policy Programme is a new programme area which CIL is developing, building on its existing Nuclear Law and Policy Programme which now forms part of the new ELP Programme.
