This is an Investments Associate Role which is part of the global Investment and Business Development team. The role reports to the President (based in Singapore) and the Investment Head (based in Europe).
Investments and Business Development
The firm’s Investments and Business Development Teams deploy the firm’s capital, including debt and equity , on energy-related investments across the globe. The team’s investment mandate is flexible across all sections of the energy value chain, from upstream oil & gas to renewables and new energies, and across the capital structure from debt-oriented solutions to control equity transactions.
In Asia, the team manages the region’s investment activities, development of new projects and strategic initiatives, structuring and deployment of structured financings , as well as ongoing management and eventual divestment of portfolio companies. There is a wide geographic scope that spans from north to south Asia and down to Australia and New Zealand. The team works closely with key Asian stakeholders including the firm’s regional/ global senior leadership, traders across various Asian commodity desks, and other external parties such as joint-venture partners, managers of our portfolio companies, banks and credit funds.
Building on the success of the existing Investments and Business Development teams, the trading house now requires an Investment Associate based in Singapore to add further bandwidth to the Investments team to identify, evaluate, execute and monitor investment opportunities. Beyond investments, the role will also provides the opportunity to support the Strategic Business Development team in the development and monitoring of new projects, and deployment of structured financing solutions to the firm’s customers.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Providing initial investment review and screening of prospective investment and/ or business development opportunities
- Building and maintaining detailed financial and valuation models
- Creating presentations for investment proposals and other purposes
- Delivering first class analysis, insight and research on potential investment and/ or business development opportunities
- Coordinating and conducting due diligence on prospective investment opportunities , project developments, and financing opportunities
- Monitoring existing portfolio companies and fulfilling quarterly reporting requirements
- Supporting senior colleagues as required
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (minimum) with an outstanding academic record
- 2-3 years’ experience in a top-tier investment bank, advisory, mergers and & acquisitions or project finance departments of a top tier corporate and investment bank, asset management company or private equity fund, ideally focused on energy M&A.
- Strong commercial judgement and meaningful experience in deal execution and diligence
- Deep quantitative/ analytical (financial modelling) experience as well as strong written and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and manage cross-functional internal teams (trading, investments, credit, legal, tax, etc.) and external advisors
- Some exposure to private debt and/ or structured finance in energy would be viewed favorably
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to interact/present to senior management
